As of June 2023, many users are reporting that they have received payments, with some amounts exceeding $500.
The Yahoo Data Breach Class Action Settlement, totaling $117.5 million, addresses the massive data breach that occurred in 2018, which is noted as the largest recorded breach in history, impacting over 3 billion accounts. This settlement pertains to significant data breaches and security incidents affecting Yahoo users’ sensitive personal information from 2012 to 2016, including breaches involving Yahoo Inc. and its subsidiary, Aabaco Small Business LLC. These breaches allowed unauthorized access to user data, prompting this settlement aimed at providing compensation and enhancing security measures for affected individuals.

To qualify for compensation, you must meet the following criteria:
You received a notification about the data breaches or had a Yahoo account between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2016.
You reside in either the United States or Israel.
Compensation Details
The $117.5 million Settlement Fund will be allocated among eligible class members. The amount each participant receives will depend on various factors, including the nature of their losses and the total number of claimants. Compensation options include:
Credit Monitoring Services: Eligible members can receive at least two years of credit monitoring to protect against future harm.
Cash Compensation: If you have existing credit monitoring services that you can verify for at least one year, you may choose a cash payment of $100. The final amount may vary based on the number of participants.
Out-of-Pocket Losses: Participants with documented losses related to the breaches may receive reimbursement up to $25,000, which includes compensation for lost time (up to fifteen hours at $25 per hour or at their actual hourly rate, whichever is higher). If lost time isn’t documented, up to five hours may be eligible for payment at the same rate.
Paid User and Small Business Costs: Individuals who paid for premium or advertisement-free Yahoo Mail services or Aabaco Small Business services can seek reimbursement for a portion of these costs.
