What is the Apple Family Sharing Class Action?

A $25 million class action settlement has been reached with Apple concerning their “family sharing” feature, applicable on various devices like iPads, iPhones, and Macs. While Apple denies any legal violations or wrongdoing, the lawsuit claims that Apple misrepresented the capability to share single subscriptions to certain apps from the App Store with other members in Family Sharing groups.

How Do I Qualify for a Payout?

To be eligible for a payout from the Apple class action, you must have:

  • Purchased a subscription to an app through the Apple App Store between June 21, 2015, and January 30, 2019.
  • Enrolled in a Family Sharing group that included at least one other member at the time of your app purchase.
  • Been a resident of the United States at the time of the purchase, as per Apple’s records.

How Much Can I Get?

Each Class Member who opts for a Class Payment will receive an equal share of the settlement, up to $30. The final amount allocated for each Class Payment will depend on the total number of Class Members. Payments will likely be made via ACH bank transfer or mailed check.

How Do I File a Claim?

To qualify for a payment, you must submit a claim form by March 1, 2024. You can do this online or by printing a claim form and mailing it to the class action administrator. If you received a payment ID and PIN via email or postcard, you can use that information to file your claim directly. If you didn’t receive a notice ID and PIN, you can still submit a claim form on the Apple Settlement website by printing the form and sending it to the administrator.
