Individuals who were incorrectly reported as deceased, or who contacted LexisNexis FL about a death notation on their file, may be eligible to receive at least $150, and potentially $1,000 or more, from a class action settlement.
Overview
LexisNexis Risk Solutions FL Inc. has agreed to pay $13.5 million to resolve a lawsuit alleging the company falsely reported living consumers as deceased. The lawsuit claims these incorrect death notations violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). LexisNexis denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid continued litigation.
Who Is Eligible?
There are two categories of class members:
Contact Members
- Individuals who reached out to LexisNexis FL between August 11, 2017, and November 4, 2025, regarding a “deceased,” “death,” or “dead” notation on a LexisNexis FL product.
- LexisNexis must have a record of this inquiry.
- Contact Members do not need to file a claim; payment will be automatic.
Product Members
- Individuals whose information was included in an identity verification or fraud prevention transaction run by LexisNexis FL between August 11, 2017, and November 4, 2025.
- The transaction must have returned a deceased notation.
- LexisNexis records must show that the false deceased status came from national credit reporting agency data.
- The individual must be alive.
- Product Members must submit a claim to receive payment.
There are approximately 1,700 Contact Members and 59,000 Product Members.
Payment Amount
All eligible class members will receive the same pro rata cash payment, estimated at $150 or more, with the final amount depending on the number of approved claims. Payments may reach $1,000 or more.
How to File a Claim
Contact Members do not need to take any action and will be paid automatically after settlement approval.
Product Members must submit a claim either online or by mailing a completed PDF claim form.

Why This Settlement Occurred
The lawsuit alleges that LexisNexis FL incorrectly labeled living individuals as deceased on certain reports, which was claimed to be a violation of the FCRA. The company denies liability and disputes that the FCRA applies to its reports but chose to settle the case to avoid further litigation.
