Citibank has agreed to a $29.5 million class action settlement over allegations of making unsolicited calls to consumers regarding credit card balances, even if those consumers were not current or former Citibank account holders.
The lawsuit claims that Citibank violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by calling noncustomers’ cellular phone numbers using an artificial or prerecorded voice without obtaining prior express consent. These calls were related to past-due credit card accounts made between August 15, 2014, and July 31, 2024.
The total settlement amount is $29.5 million.
To be eligible for a payout, you must not be a current or past Citibank customer who received one or more calls from Citibank using an artificial or prerecorded voice on your cellular phone regarding a past-due credit card account during the specified period.
Each eligible participant may receive between $350 and $850, depending on the number of valid claims submitted. The actual payment amount could be higher or lower based on total claims, with a maximum payout of $2,500 for those who can document receiving more than five prerecorded calls from Citibank.
To file a claim, submit it electronically via the settlement website by December 20, 2024, or print and mail a claim form by the same deadline. Ensure your claim form is received by the cutoff date.
You do not need proof to file a claim. If you lack a claim number and PIN that may have been provided to you, you can still print and mail a claim form. You will need to provide the phone number that Citibank used to contact you.
However, to receive additional compensation beyond the limit, you must provide documentation such as telephone records or screenshots proving that you received more than five prerecorded calls from Citibank.
