The class action lawsuit stems from allegations that Farmers entered into undisclosed agreements with specific healthcare providers, which may have restricted policyholders’ freedom to choose medical providers under their no-fault insurance benefits.
Who Qualifies for the Settlement?
You may be eligible to file a claim if:
- You purchased or renewed an auto or business insurance policy in Minnesota from:
- The policy included medical expense benefits under Minnesota’s No-Fault Automobile Insurance Act
- The purchase or renewal occurred between January 17, 2013, and September 13, 2023
There are two classes in the settlement:
- Damages Class: Anyone who held a qualifying policy during the class period.
- Injunctive Relief Class: Those who still maintain such a policy as of the settlement.
What Compensation Is Available?
- Cash Payment: The payout will be distributed pro rata (based on how much was paid for the coverage and how many valid claims are submitted).
- Injunctive Relief: Farmers will now disclose existing and future “No-Bill Agreements” with healthcare providers to the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

When Will Payments Be Issued?

Background of the Lawsuit
Plaintiffs accused Farmers of violating the Minnesota Consumer Fraud Act, the Minnesota Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and their own insurance contracts.
