If you used the Criterion Channel to watch videos between September 27, 2022, and December 27, 2024, you may be eligible for a cash payment from a $4.5 million class action settlement.
What’s the Lawsuit About?
The lawsuit claims that The Criterion Collection LLC shared users’ personally identifiable information with Meta Platforms Inc. and Twilio Inc. without user consent. Plaintiffs allege this violated federal and state privacy laws, including:
- The Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA)
- The Electronic Communications Privacy Act
- The Pennsylvania Wiretap Act
- The Florida Security of Communications Act
Criterion denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case to avoid continued litigation.
Who Is Eligible?
You may be eligible if:
- You had a Criterion Channel account or subscription in the U.S.
- You watched a prerecorded video on the service between Sept. 27, 2022, and Dec. 27, 2024
- You used any of the following platforms:
- criterionchannel.com
- Criterion Channel app (iOS or Android)
- Streaming devices/platforms (e.g., Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung TV, Xbox)
How Much Can You Receive?
- Each eligible claimant will receive a pro rata share of the $4.5 million settlement fund (after legal fees, admin costs, and service awards).
- The actual amount depends on how many valid claims are submitted.
