What is The Bank of America Wire Transfer Fee Class Action Settlement?
Bank of America has agreed to a $21,000,000 class action settlement over claims that it improperly charged fees for certain wire transfers. The lawsuit alleges that Bank of America imposed undisclosed $15.00 fees on incoming wire transfers to personal accounts, in violation of account agreements and misleading customers. To resolve these allegations, Bank of America has consented to pay $21 million.
How Do I Qualify for a Payout?
You may be eligible if you:
- Opened a Bank of America consumer checking or savings account on or before August 31, 2012
- Paid, and were not refunded, an incoming wire transfer fee between March 8, 2019, and August 31, 2023
How Much Can I Get?
Class members may receive pro-rated payments based on the total amount of incoming wire transfer fees charged to their accounts during the relevant period.
How Do I File a Claim?
No claim form is required. Payments will be automatically distributed to eligible class members:
- Current Bank of America accountholders will have their payments directly deposited into their accounts.
- Former accountholders will receive payments by check.
The settlement is pending final approval from the Court. Once approved, eligible class members will receive their payments automatically.
Important Dates and Deadlines
The deadline for mailing objections or notices of intent to appear at the Final Approval Hearing is September 21, 2024. Specifically:
- Objections and/or notices of intent to appear must be postmarked by September 21, 2024.
This date is crucial for class members who wish to object to the settlement or attend the Final Approval Hearing. Ensure your objections or notices are mailed well in advance of this deadline to be considered.
To object to the settlement, mail your objection so that it is postmarked by September 21, 2024. Include the case name and number, your full name, address, phone number, a detailed statement of your objections, reasons for each objection, and any supporting documents.
If you want to speak about your objection at the Final Approval Hearing, you must also file a notice of intent to appear by the same deadline. Filing an objection does not exclude you from the settlement; if approved, you will still be bound by its terms and receive any payment you are entitled to. The Court will review all objections at the Final Approval Hearing scheduled for October 21, 2024.
