What is the Hino Motors Settlement About?
A $237.5 million class action settlement has been reached with Hino Motors, Ltd. Plaintiffs allege that Hino engaged in practices to manipulate emissions test results for certain Hino-branded trucks in the U.S., causing harm to purchasers and lessees of the affected vehicles.
How Do I Know if I Qualify?
To be eligible for a payout from the Hino Motors settlement, you must have purchased or leased a Settlement Class Truck by October 30, 2023. You can verify if your truck is included in the Settlement Class by checking the VIN Lookup page and entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Settlement Class Trucks include on-road vehicles equipped with Hino engines sold or leased in the U.S. from 2010 through 2019.
How Much Can I Expect to Receive?
Compensation from the settlement will be distributed equally among all Class Members who submit valid and timely claims. Expected payouts range from approximately $1,500 to $15,000 per Settlement Class Truck, depending on the volume of legitimate claims submitted.
The settlement also includes an extended warranty covering:
- Repair or replacement of specific emissions system parts
- Diagnostic test fees leading to necessary repairs
- Warranty for new parts required for government-mandated emissions repairs or recalls
- Repairs for qualifying Hino trucks for the next three years
How Do I File a Claim and Get Paid?
To receive your settlement payment, you must submit a valid claim by June 17, 2024. If you received a postcard or email notice with your Unique ID, you won’t need to provide additional documentation.
If you lack a Unique ID or if the Settlement Administrator cannot verify your claim, you may need to submit further documentation, such as:
