What Is the AMC Plus Settlement About?
AMC has agreed to pay $8,300,000 as part of a class action lawsuit that claims the company violated the Video Privacy Protection Act by disclosing subscribers’ personal information (PII) to third parties without obtaining explicit consent.
If you subscribed to or signed up for any of the following streaming services, you may be eligible for a payment from this settlement: AMC+, Shudder, Acorn TV, ALLBLK, SundanceNow, and HIDIVE.
AMC+ is a premium streaming service launched by AMC Networks on June 11, 2020, featuring content from several services listed above, many of which are produced exclusively for AMC Networks and its subsidiaries.
How Do I Know If I Qualify?
You may qualify for a payout if you registered as a user of AMC Services through an online website or mobile app owned or operated by AMC or any of its streaming services between January 18, 2021, and January 10, 2024.
How Much Can I Get Paid?
To receive a payment from the Settlement Fund, you must submit a valid claim form. Each qualified claimant will receive an equal share of the settlement, which will be determined based on the number of valid claims submitted by the deadline. Additionally, AMC Networks will offer a one-week digital subscription to the AMC+ streaming service to all eligible class members.
AMC Networks has also stated that they will not allow third-party tracking companies to know which videos any individual watches unless changes to the Video Privacy Protection Act allow it, the VPPA is repealed, or a court decision permits such data collection and sharing.
How Do I File a Claim and Get Paid?
To qualify for payment from the AMC Plus class action, you must submit a claim form by April 9, 2024. Proof of purchase is not required. You can print and mail a claim form to the class action administrator (see link below). To file online, you will need a Notice ID and Confirmation Code previously emailed to you by the AMC Class Action Settlement administrators. If you believe you qualify but did not receive a notice ID, please contact the administrators.
