Individuals who received a notice in April or May 2023 indicating that their personal information may have been compromised in the January 2023 Fortra GoAnywhere file transfer data breach may be eligible to claim up to $5,000 or receive an estimated $85 cash payment as part of a $20 million class action settlement.

The lawsuit alleges that Fortra and several affiliated companies failed to implement adequate data security practices, leading to a cyberattack that exposed the personal data of approximately five million people. Affected information may include names, addresses, Social Security numbers, birth dates, health insurance information, and other sensitive records.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be eligible if:

  • You live in the United States and received a breach notification regarding the Fortra GoAnywhere Managed File Transfer (MFT) data breach from one of the defendants or affiliated entities in April or May 2023.
  • You were a customer, patient, or provided personal data to one of the impacted organizations listed above, and your information may have been stored in Fortra’s systems at the time of the breach.

Settlement Benefits

Eligible class members can choose from the following benefits:

Cash Payment A – Documented Losses:
Up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach. Eligible costs may include identity theft services, bank fees, credit monitoring, mileage, postage, or losses due to fraud. Supporting documentation is required.

Cash Payment B – Alternative Compensation:
A pro rata cash payment (estimated at $85), for class members not claiming documented losses. No proof is required for this option.

Dark Web Monitoring:
One year of free dark web monitoring, including real-time alerts, transaction monitoring, wallet protection, and victim support.

How to File a Claim

Claims must be submitted by August 29, 2025. You may file online or print and mail the claim form to the address below. Brightline subclass members must use a separate Brightline-specific form.

Documentation Requirements:

The $20 million fund will be distributed as follows:

  • Attorney fees: Up to $6,666,667
  • Attorney expenses: Subject to court approval

  • Payments to valid claimants: Remaining balance

When Will Payments Be Issued?

Payments and access to monitoring services will be distributed approximately 75 days after the court grants final approval and all claims are processed.
