General Motors has agreed to a $24.88 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit over alleged engine defects in certain 2011–2014 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. Eligible Oklahoma drivers may receive an estimated $815 each.
What the Lawsuit Was About
The lawsuit claimed some GM vehicles were sold with defective piston assemblies in their LC9 V8 engines. These defects allegedly caused:
GM denied wrongdoing but chose to settle to avoid ongoing legal costs.
Who’s Eligible?
You may qualify if:
- You currently own or lease a qualifying GM vehicle as of September 26, 2024
- Your vehicle is a 2011–2014:
- Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, or Tahoe
- GMC Sierra, Yukon, or Yukon XL
- The vehicle has a Generation IV LC9 5.3L V8 Vortec 5300 engine, built on or after February 10, 2011
- The vehicle was purchased or leased in Oklahoma
Excluded: Vehicles that already received upgraded piston rings for free under warranty.
How Much Will You Receive?
- Estimated payout per eligible vehicle: ~$815.40
- Final amount depends on the number of valid claims and deductions for legal fees, administrative costs, and taxes
How to Claim Your Payment
Most eligible owners will automatically receive payment — no claim required.
However, if your notice asks you to complete a class member ID form, you must submit it by July 28, 2025, either:
