Overview
Consumers who purchased or paid for SmileDirectClub aligners for personal use in the United States between October 22, 2017, and August 18, 2022, may be eligible to receive a cash payment from a $31.75 million class action settlement.
The lawsuit claimed Align Technology Inc., through its relationship with SmileDirectClub LLC, engaged in anticompetitive practices that inflated the price of SmileDirectClub aligners. Align denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case to avoid further litigation.

Why Was This Settlement Reached?
The lawsuit alleged Align Technology Inc. violated antitrust laws by working with SmileDirectClub LLC in a way that reduced competition in the direct-to-consumer dental aligner market. This allegedly led to higher prices for consumers. Align denied these claims but agreed to the settlement to avoid prolonged litigation and the uncertainty of trial.
