If you owned or leased a 2018–2024 Volkswagen Atlas, you may be entitled to reimbursement or a warranty extension.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (VWGoA) has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged certain 2018–2024 Volkswagen Atlas vehicles contain a defect in the second-row seat latching mechanism. The company denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to a settlement to avoid ongoing litigation.
Who’s Eligible?
To qualify as a class member, you must meet the following:
- You are a current or former owner or lessee of a 2018–2024 Volkswagen Atlas;
- The vehicle must have been imported/distributed by VWGoA in the U.S. or Puerto Rico;
- Your vehicle must be identified as a “Settlement Class Vehicle” based on its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN);
- Both individuals and businesses may qualify.
You can verify eligibility by entering your VIN at the official settlement website’s VIN Lookup Portal.
Both current and former owners/lessees may qualify—even if you no longer have the vehicle.
You may file for multiple vehicles, if eligible.
What Are the Benefits?
1. Warranty Extension
All qualifying vehicles receive a warranty extension (effective May 21, 2025) covering the repair or replacement of the second-row seat latch. The coverage lasts up to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date.
2. Reimbursement for Past Repairs
If you paid out-of-pocket to repair the second-row seat latching mechanism before May 21, 2025, you may be eligible for reimbursement:
- 100% reimbursement (parts + labor) for repairs done at an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
- For non-dealer repairs:
- Up to $645 for a latch/latch cover replacement.
- Up to $1,700 for a second-row seat or seat frame replacement.
Note: Repairs caused by accidents, misuse, abuse, or external damage do not qualify.
Examples:
- A $600 non-dealer latch repair = full $600 reimbursement (if no prior discounts).
- A $2,000 non-dealer seat replacement = capped at $1,700 reimbursement.
- A $200 VW goodwill credit on a $600 repair = $400 reimbursed.
