What is the Indian Boarding Homes Class Action?

The Indian Boarding Homes Program was an initiative established by the Government of Canada that involved placing children from First Nations communities and Inuit villages into private family homes in non-Indigenous communities for educational purposes.

This settlement arises from two legal actions (in the Superior Court of Quebec and the Federal Court) brought on behalf of children who experienced harassment, abuse, cultural and linguistic loss, and other harms while participating in the Indian Boarding Homes Program. The plaintiffs sought compensation, acknowledgment, and justice for their experiences.

The claim process is currently open for individuals to submit their compensation claims.

Claim forms are available on the Forms page, or you can contact the Claims Administrator to receive the forms directly.

All claims must be submitted by the deadline of Monday, February 22, 2027.
