Overview
Yale New Haven Health Services Corp. has agreed to pay $18 million to resolve allegations that it failed to adequately safeguard personal and protected health information. The breach, discovered on March 8, 2025, involved unauthorized access to certain systems and potentially affected as many as 5.3 million people.
Compromised information may have included names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, race or ethnicity, Social Security numbers, patient types, and medical record numbers.
Who Is Eligible?
Eligible class members are living individuals in the United States who received a notice from Yale New Haven Health stating that their personal information may have been impacted by the March 8, 2025 data breach.
Settlement Payment Options
Class members may choose from the following:
Cash Payment A – Documented Losses
Up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses related to the breach. Eligible losses include:
- Unreimbursed fraud or identity theft expenses
- Fees for freezing or unfreezing credit
- Notary, postage, copying, and mileage costs
- Other expenses directly connected to the data breach
Cash Payment B – Alternate Cash
An estimated $100 alternate payment for those who do not submit documented losses. The final amount depends on the number of approved claims.
Medical Data Monitoring
All class members may request two years of free medical data monitoring.
How to File a Claim
To receive a payment or monitoring benefits, class members must submit a claim by February 18, 2026. Claims can be filed online or by printing and mailing the PDF claim form.

When Will Payments Be Sent?

Why the Settlement Was Filed
The lawsuit followed a criminal intrusion into Yale New Haven Health’s systems, which may have exposed sensitive personal and medical information. While the company denies wrongdoing, both sides agreed to settle to avoid further litigation. The settlement also requires Yale New Haven Health to strengthen its information security practices.
